Being released by Jets owner’s son would be a ‘great story’

Aaron Rodgers once again mentioned the scenario of being released by the Jets the day after the season ends.

It may have once been a hypothesis. Twice in two weeks might suggest he knows something is afoot. Or maybe, in his words, it's a “nothing burger.”

On Monday's “Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers laid out a scenario in which reports last week revealed the influence that Jets owner Woody Johnson's 18-year-old son Brick has had on his father and the team's management. did. – Artist: The Athletic —calling upon him to be released.

“There's always a first for everything, and this year we had some of those. It's been 20 years,” Rogers said. “I've never been released before. It'll be the first time I've been released. It'll be the first time I've been released as a teenager. Hey, I'm open to everything. I'm open to all of it. If that happens, that would be a great story.”

Rodgers reiterated his comments last week that he would be willing to take a pay cut to stay with the Jets and coach the young quarterback who will succeed him, as he did with the Packers' Jordan Love. Of course, it all depends on whether he decides not to retire, which is still a possibility.

“Maybe they haven't decided what their plans are yet, or if they have, they haven't told me about it,” Rogers said. “I think they want to get the GM here in the next few weeks and obviously want the GM to be involved in the coaching selection. I think there's a world where you can just say, 'Thank you.' “We're going to go in a different direction on January 6th. I think we might wait and see who the new staff is.”

The Jets will conclude the regular season on January 5th at home against the Dolphins.

Regardless of whether Rodgers stays with the Jets, he wants to see a more solid organization in the future.

“The best thing for the Jets is that these types of leaks don't happen all the time,” Rodgers said. “Once you understand that, it's going to be a little bit easier to win. It doesn't directly impact the players on the field. But it does impact the culture, chemistry and overall energy of the building. That's what needs to be improved.”
