Despite your efforts, it can be frustrating to see the scale stuck at the same old number. One reason for this inertia may be that you don't weigh what you eat properly.


Physical therapist Olivia Van Geis reveals the 'biggest mistake' people make when tracking calories.

“One of the biggest mistakes I see as a coach for people tracking calories is if a serving is 2 ounces dry or uncooked; [should] Weigh anything dry or uncooked,” says Olivia Van Geis, a physical therapist in California. Explained on TikTok.

“The same rules apply to rice, vegetables and meat,” Van Geis said. “So make sure to weigh it in advance or enter ‘cooked pasta’ or ‘cooked ground meat’ into the app. Please know that it may not be that accurate. ”

on TikTokRegistered dietitian Daniel McClellan points out that rice typically triples in weight when cooked.

She encourages her clients to weigh their food after it's cooked.

“It's much easier to meal prep on Sunday and just make a big batch of chicken, rice or pasta and measure it out based on weekly servings,” McClellan said. “The key here is to select 'prepared' foods in your meal tracking app.”

She proved her point by preparing 45 grams of dry brown rice, which expanded to 143 grams when cooked. She connected the results to a food tracking device.

According to her, 143 grams of cooked brown rice contains 34 grams of net carbohydrates, which is carbohydrates minus dietary fiber.

Meanwhile, 143 grams of uncooked brown rice contains 104 grams of net carbohydrates.

“So be sure to enter 'cooked' or 'uncooked' for all foods in your food tracking app,” McClellan advised.
