Five people were injured and one person was found dead after a boat explosion at Lauderdale Marina, officials said.
The incident happened on December 23rd at around 6pm. Fort Lauderdale Fire and Rescue (FLFR) received multiple 911 calls regarding an explosion and boat fire.
Crew discovered a significant fire on one boat before quickly spreading to another boat.
Five people were taken to hospital, three of them with “traumatic injuries,” FLFR said.

The FLFR dive team worked with the Broward Sheriff's Office and located a sixth victim deceased in the water.
“It sounded like a thump and when I turned around, the whole dock was already on fire,” the witness said. Local TV station WSVN. “It was engulfed in flames.”

“I kept screaming and screaming and they told us we had to leave right away. I was focused on trying to find where my family was,” Maria Sanz said. told the media.
A local waiter told the TV station that he was taking orders when the explosion occurred.
“All I saw was the boat explode, the top of the boat rise, sink again and the boat burst into flames. I went there to see if anyone needed help. I ran to…I mean, it was like chaos,” Tamer Dimiati said.

FLFR cited patient privacy concerns by not identifying those involved. The department said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is the lead investigative agency investigating the cause of the explosion and subsequent fire.
“More information will be available once the vessel is removed from the water and investigators can examine it further,” FLFR said in a statement.
