Jennifer Grey smoked ‘a lot of weed’ before sex scene with Patrick Swayze in ‘Red Dawn’

The sex scene between Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze in Red Dawn was not produced in the 1984 film due to the excessive use of some substances.

On December 20, Gray appeared as a guest on “Hollywood Reporter Awards Chat” On the podcast, he recalled smoking “a lot of weed” before filming a scene with a drunk Swayze.

“We were in a sleeping bag and he was nervous or something and came in drunk,” Gray told host Scott Feinberg.

“Red Dawn” stars Grey, Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson and C. Thomas Howell as teenagers who head into the mountains to plan a counterattack against the Russian-led invasion.

“As an actor, you look at everything that's in the script and say, 'Okay. I'm running. I'm shooting. I'm running. I'm throwing grenades. I'm doing that. 'He killed himself with a grenade, but that's the only non-action scene,' Gray said of the sex scene.

She described the shot as “one of those very tender scenes, and I thought that was part of the reason I wanted to do this job.”

“I was also smoking a lot of marijuana at the time, so I became extremely paranoid and scared.”

Gray said Swayze “didn't know his lines, and it got cut. And they said, 'Come back and reshoot it.'” But of course they didn't. ”

The actress said her co-stars “put a firecracker at my door to play a prank.”

“I was also smoking a lot of marijuana at the time,” Gray explained. “So I got very paranoid and scared. I couldn't sleep all night. So to shoot my big love scene, my big… romantic scene with him. When I got on the scene, I was so angry, you know, all self-righteous.”

Gray told listeners, “Remember, I'm a super young actor…I take everything very seriously and it can be a little messy…I want to do good.”

After co-starring in Red Dawn, Gray and Swayze appeared in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing.

Swayze died in 2009 at the age of 57 from pancreatic cancer. In April, Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi Swayze, spoke about how she felt the moment she learned her husband had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

While talking with people Speaking about her partnership with the nonprofit organization Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Lisa detailed how she felt when she heard of her husband's diagnosis.

“It was the worst night of my life,” she told the outlet. “know [Patrick] “I'm already dead,'' he said, but I slept with him that night on a cot in the hospital room. I felt like the nail was being driven into my coffin. Your life has changed forever, and there is no escaping the reality of what the diagnosis means. That's really bad. It's just a scary moment. ”

Lisa went on to explain that at the time Patrick was diagnosed, “it was impossible to turn around.” She added that they were happy: “He miraculously survived the next 22 months.”

Lisa explained: [her] For a while after Patrick passed away in September 2009, I constantly reminded myself that people do things like this all the time.

“And it's just as painful because I thought, 'This is going to kill me. The grief is going to kill me,'” she told People. “But you know what? Not everyone is going to die. If they can do it, so can I.”

The 5-year survival rate is pancreatic cancer According to the American Cancer Society's Cancer Facts & Figures 2024, that rate has risen to 13%. But Lisa says, “We have to be better than that.”
