A Russian-born American who was previously imprisoned in Russia on a bribery conviction has been sentenced for a second time on espionage charges.
According to Russian news agencies, Eugene Spector was found guilty of espionage and received a new sentence of 15 years in prison. Spector was born and raised in Leningrad, Russia, but later immigrated to the United States and received citizenship.
A Moscow court indicted Spector on charges of espionage in August last year, but details of the case were not made public.

The US State Department said it was aware of reports that an American resident in Russia had been sentenced and was monitoring the situation.
Spector, a former executive at a Russian medical device company, was sentenced in September 2022 to three-and-a-half years in prison for enabling the bribery of former Russian deputy prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

Her aide, Anastasia Alexeyeva, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in April for accepting bribes for two expensive overseas holidays.
Dvorkovich served as deputy prime minister of Russia under former Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev from 2012 to 2018. Mr. Dvorković is currently the president of the International Chess Federation FIDE.
