Netflix avoids repeat of Jake Paul-Mike Tyson streaming disaster

After a tough start, Netflix has rebounded strongly.

The streaming giant is broadcasting the Chiefs-Steelers and Ravens-Texans games on Christmas Day, marking the first live NFL coverage.

Streaming issues with Netflix for last month's Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight raised concerns about the company's ability to handle large-scale events, but the first game of the day, Kansas City vs. Pittsburgh, had no issues. I was almost able to avoid it.

The stream was crisp and high quality with no lag.

However, at the beginning of Wednesday's Netflix coverage, the broadcast went silent as co-host Kay Adams began speaking for about 10 seconds with her microphone apparently not working.

The “Squid Game” ad then aired while co-host Mina Kimes was speaking before the pregame show resumed.

But out of the gate, Netflix streaming is going great.

During the highly anticipated Paul vs. Tyson fight, which Netflix said 60 million people watched on the platform, many fans complained that the stream froze or crashed.

ESPN previously reported that the NFL was concerned enough at the time to reach out to Netflix, but was satisfied with Netflix's explanation.

After the dispute, Netflix Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone acknowledged to employees that the company needed to improve.

“This unprecedented scale posed many technical challenges, which our launch team successfully navigated by prioritizing stream stability for the vast majority of viewers,” said Netflix CTO Elizabeth. Stone wrote to employees: According to Bloomberg. “Many of you have seen conversations about quality issues in the press and on social media.

“While we do not want to ignore the poor experience of some of our members and know there is room for improvement, we still consider the event to be a great success.”

Netflix paid $150 million for the two games ($75 million each) and will each have at least one holiday game in the next two seasons, The Wall Street Journal previously reported.
