Three people were shot to death and a fourth was stabbed during an apparent family dispute at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona on Wednesday night, according to the Phoenix Police Department (PPD).
Phoenix Police Sergeant Mayra Leeson told reporters that the incident occurred outside of a security perimeter and that police detained a juvenile woman and a man with stab wounds in a parking lot, according to CNN. reported Thursday.

“I believe this was an escalation of a family dispute,” Leeson said, adding that police have reason to believe all five people involved in the violent altercation knew each other. “No suspects are being sought and airport operations have resumed as normal. The police PIO will be at the scene to gather further information and will brief the media at Terminal 4.” PPD said in a statement on social media.

“There is no active threat at the airport and detectives are on scene and have completed an initial investigation to determine the cause of this incident. There are no flights affected by this ongoing investigation,” police said. added.

Leeson told reporters that weapons used in the conflict had been recovered from the scene, CNN reported.
“This is terrifying,” Leeson said. “It was Christmas night. Everyone was trying to go home.”
“The incident has been resolved and we are returning to normal operations,” an airport spokesperson said.
