‘A Lot’ of Us Think Voters ‘Liked What We Were Selling’

On Thursday's broadcast of Bloomberg's “Balance of Power,” Rep. Sean Kasten (D-Ill.) said many House Democrats “people like what we're selling.” He said he believed it.

asked co-host Joe Mathews.[W]The Democratic stance on the Dreamer issue will be questioned, and…knowing that the Republicans were partially elected and Donald Trump was also partially elected because of the border approach, the Dreamers on the Senate agreement on the border. Of course, this was never passed into law earlier this year and is a law that Donald Trump didn't want to see passed, but they will be included in this discussion in the new Congress. Do you want it?”

Kasten replied: “Well, let me speak from the House's perspective. Yes, Donald Trump won the election.” The House took seats. We won two seats in the last election. So, there's a lot of people on my side of the aisle who are pretty happy that people like what we're selling. And we are in a rapidly growing economy. In the past three years, I have yet to meet an employer who hasn't said they have a major problem finding qualified talent. The CBO said part of the reason that U.S. inflation has fallen much faster than in other countries is because net immigration to the country has increased. So if we want to reduce inflation and ensure that employers can find workers, we need to ensure we have a humane and robust immigration system that continues to attract the best talent. And what we're all telling our Republican colleagues is to go read Ronald Reagan's farewell speech. He said, “I've always thought of America as a great shining city on a hill. If you need a wall, make sure there's a door.” It has a window so that those with means and ability can enter. That's the message we need to remind people, because that's the only thing that truly made America great. ”
