REPORT: With Biden’s Term Running Out, Even More Taxpayer-Funded Aid Headed To Ukraine

The Biden administration, with 24 days left in office, plans to announce $1.25 billion in additional military aid to Ukraine, the Associated Press reported, citing U.S. officials.

The Biden administration aims to strengthen Ukraine's defenses against Russia by the time President Biden leaves office on January 20th. According to To AP. The package secures military resources and strengthens Ukraine's air defense capabilities with the country's advanced surface-to-air missile system and the Hawk system, which also includes Stinger missiles and 155-millimeter and 105-millimeter shells. Officials said they wanted to. It is scheduled for Monday.

According to the Associated Press, senior Pentagon officials said in early December that the Defense Department would not be able to send all $5.6 billion worth of weapons and equipment previously approved by Congress to Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. He said that it may be difficult for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Future aid will be earmarked through the president's withdrawal authority, allowing the Pentagon to expedite arms transfers.

This round of aid will leave about $4.35 billion of allocated funds still to be transferred, the Associated Press reported. The Department of Defense also reported approximately $1.2 billion in additional long-term funding through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which covers contracts lasting more than one year.

This funding is expected to be fully allocated by the end of the year. The policy would bring total U.S. security assistance to Ukraine to more than $64 billion since the Russian invasion in February 2022, according to the Associated Press.

This is in addition to a massive $20 billion loan that the US Treasury transferred to Ukraine earlier this month. This amount includes contributions from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan, using frozen Russian state assets. While the Biden administration continues to fund Ukraine's defense, President Trump has expressed interest in ending the war once and for all. In a telephone conversation at the European Council summit in Brussels, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Trump pledged to move quickly in the pursuit of a “fair, just and sustainable peace” in Ukraine.

President Trump has previously commented on the war in Ukraine, calling it one of the most bitter conflicts since World War II. He said he was working to end the “horrible” war between Ukraine and Russia.
