The frantic search for a Norwegian Cruise Line passenger who fell overboard has been called off.
A cruise line spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that a 51-year-old man fell overboard from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship. Norwegian Epic Late Thursday afternoon.
The incident was first confirmed around 3 p.m. Norwegian Epic I was on my way from Ocho Rios, Jamaica to Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.
A spokesperson said the passenger was on a cruise with his family. The cruise departed from Port Canaveral, Florida on Saturday, December 21st for a seven-night Western Caribbean voyage.

The cruise line said it immediately alerted authorities and search and rescue operations were carried out immediately.

“Unfortunately, after an extensive search without success, the vessel was released by authorities to continue sailing,” the spokesperson said.

Norwegian Cruise Line said the passengers' loved ones are “being cared for and supported during this extremely difficult situation.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time,” the spokesperson added.

Built in 2010 and renovated in 2020, Norwegian Epic has 19 decks. When two cabins are occupied, the number of passengers is 4,070 and the number of crew members is 1,724.
It was not immediately clear why the man went too far. The man has not been identified.
