Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., said Friday that Democrats are exploiting immigrant workers using economic necessity as an excuse.
Monaka exterior In “The Ingraham Angle,” Biggs disputed the argument that deporting immigrants would harm the U.S. economy, framing it as a misleading narrative favoring big business. Mr Biggs said the party's argument was essentially exploiting immigrants to keep consumer costs low.
“In fact, we've been hearing for years that if you deport people, they won't harvest your vegetables. McDonald's burgers will cost more. Hotel rooms. We’re going to have to clean it up,” Biggs said. “By the way, all these people are exploiting these people ostensibly to keep prices down, but in reality they're making a lot of money out of it.”
Biggs questioned the sincerity of sanctuary cities and states that claim to protect immigrants while simultaneously seeking federal aid.
“If this is such a great idea, why would they go? These sanctuary cities and states are going to tell the federal government, 'Oh, by the way, we need $5 billion to bail us out, and we…' 'Are we going to take care of education, health care, food, cell phones, everything?'' Biggs asked. (Related article: 'They're scared': Locals say Haitians are fleeing Springfield after Trump's victory)
Biggs said Americans have already expressed their opinions on the issue.
“The United States said loud and clear on Nov. 5 that the biggest challenge is to close our borders,” Biggs said.
President-elect Donald Trump has promised mass deportations, ignoring the costs. In a call with NBC News in November, Trump said there was “no price tag” on his deportation initiative. That's because the president plans to launch a major immigration crackdown on his first day in office, specifically targeting the illegal removal of individuals in the United States. A person with a criminal record.
President Trump has named Tom Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as the incoming administration's new “border czar.” In a post on Truth Social, Trump ordered Homan to manage deportations and increase security at both land and sea borders.
