A majority of likely U.S. voters say the U.S. doesn't need more foreign H-1B visa workers to fill white-collar jobs, according to a new poll.
Research on Rasmussen Reports reveal When asked whether Congress should increase the flow of foreign workers, primarily those who enter the country through the H-1B visa program, 6 in 10 Americans said the United States should have more white-collar jobs. “We already have enough talent to train and hire.”
Meanwhile, only 26% of Americans say Congress should increase the number of foreign visa workers in white-collar jobs.
Republicans and swing voters in particular argue that the United States has enough American talent for such jobs and does not need more foreign visa workers.
According to the survey, 72% of Republicans, 63% of voters, and 47% of Democrats say the United States has enough qualified people to train and hire for white-collar jobs. There is.
Breitbart News has reported years of fraud and abuse within the H-1B visa program, where white-collar Americans are fired and forced to train foreign replacements, primarily from India and China. have been recorded.
While companies lay off Americans in white-collar jobs to import foreign H-1B visa workers, hundreds of thousands of young, college-educated Americans each year lose their jobs to decent jobs. They enter the labor force seeking entry-level jobs that pay well.
Every year, about 500,000 American graduates enter the workforce in STEM industries seeking well-paying jobs with great benefits. Their chances of getting such jobs are greatly diminished by the annual influx of tens of thousands of foreign H-1B visa workers who will compete directly with them in the white-collar labor market.
During President-elect Donald Trump's first term, his administration reformed the H-1B visa program to better ensure that companies do not unfairly fire Americans just to hire foreign visa workers.
But President Joe Biden has watered down these reforms by 2022, allowing companies whose foreign workers were denied H-1B visas by the Trump administration to reapply.
