Florida homeowner shoots two intruders, kills one: sheriff’s office

A Florida man opened fire on two home invaders Thursday night, killing one of them, authorities said.

Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells said at a news conference Friday that a homeowner in the Lakewood Ranch area saw two masked men on his motion-activated home surveillance camera and told his wife to hide. Ta.

The homeowner then grabbed a gun and confronted the two men who had broken into his home.

Jorge Nesteban Flores-Toldeo, 27, from Mexico, was shot multiple times in his home and later died from his wounds.

Flores-Toledo had an active warrant for a parole violation and was considered armed and dangerous by authorities. Fox13 reported.

Back in 2023, he served four months in prison for burglary and was released on parole just last month.

“This is Florida. If you want to break into someone's home, be prepared to get shot,” Sheriff Wells warned, the newspaper reported.

The sheriff then praised the homeowner's quick thinking.

“He knew something bad was about to happen, and he didn't stall. He grabbed the gun and told his wife to run to safety.”

Michael Sotomela, 39, was arrested a few blocks from his home after being tracked down by a K9 unit.

According to Fox 13, Sotomela is in the country illegally on an expired visa from Chile that expired in September.

He has been charged with armed robbery and additional charges are pending.
