Jets still haven’t rewritten their lousy Bills history

We've spent the better part of 64 years trying to catch up. The first game the Jets (then known as the Titans) played was on September 11, 1960. That Sunday afternoon, the first professional football game played there since Nov. 27, the 55,000-seat Polo Grounds drew 10,000 spectators. , 1955 (Giants 35, Browns 35) and any type of major league game since September 29, 1957 (Pirates 9, Giants 1).

In that first game, with thousands of good seats available, the Titans scored two rushing touchdowns from Al Dorrow, 66 yards rushing from Pete Hart, and 152 passing yards from quarterback Dick Jamieson. Thanks to the TD, they won 27-3 against the Buffalo Bills. . Don Maynard had four catches for 116 yards. The defense intercepted Bills quarterbacks Bob Broadhead and Tommy O'Connell twice. The Jets would win again a month later at Buffalo's old War Memorial Stadium (nicknamed even then as “The Rockpile”).

It was a good way to start a long relationship with friends from the north and west. And at that moment, it seemed like Buffalo might serve as a worthy little brother to New York's AFL rivals.

That didn't work. Since then, the Jets have told Fredo Corleone, “I'm your brother, and you've let me down!”
