Chicago needs a new mayor — and it’s time for a Republican

The world is moving to the right politically. Argentina has moved significantly to the right and elected a conservative and honest president, Javier Millay. Canada's liberal government of Justin Trudeau is about to collapse. The Democratic mayor of Dallas is now a Republican. The French Prime Minister was expelled. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has begun parroting Trumpism, and Donald Trump has returned to the presidency, winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote.

Perhaps it's time for Chicago to follow suit.

Chicago deserves a mayor who puts the best interests of Chicagoans and Americans first.

Chicagoans celebrated the inauguration of then-Mayor Lori. light foot He lost his bid for re-election in February 2023, becoming the first mayor in 40 years to not contest a general election. There was a feeling of hope. Indeed, neither Paul Vallas nor Brandon Johnson, the candidates on the ballot, could be worse choices.

Chicago voters then told the world to “Hold your beer” and elected Brandon Johnson, who proved more radical and polarizing than his predecessor.

Mayor Johnson has failed to address crime, poverty, homelessness, and the flight of large corporations and their educated workers from the city. Instead, the mayor decided to focus on illegal immigration, further doubling down on his position since Donald Trump's reelection.

johnson The city of Chicago asserts that it will not allow Chicago Police Department officers to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in deporting illegal immigrants, stating: …We can't stop, and we can't turn back. ”

But Mayor Johnson's political calculations failed. He abandoned the people who brought him to office in favor of those in the country illegally, taking taxpayer resources away from the city's American citizens in need. And those voters aren't going to sleep quietly.

Chicagoans are so outraged that one resident of color yelled at the mayor during a recent City Council meeting to discuss the budget. states“You funneled all this money to illegal immigrants. … Everything you give away is not real.”

Another resident accused the mayor of failing to “protect the people of Chicago from invasion.”

The situation became so heated that the mayor ordered the public to leave the meeting.

But it's not just that the mayor loves illegal immigrants more than Americans. He has failed in every aspect of his administration. He simply has a weak connection to his constituency. Johnson doesn't want to touch on issues that are important to Chicagoans. “We've seen him spend over $1.5 billion. suggestion $400 million to redo Soldier Field towards Immigrants only care about displacing their families and wasting their time. $30,000 Hair and makeup campaign funds. Maybe that's why only 28% of Chicagoans view him favorably. ”

Brandon Johnson has failed the people who voted him president, people of color from poor neighborhoods. These mothers and fathers do not care about the use of preferred pronouns. They don't want men in the women's locker room. And they don't want money going to illegal immigrants. They want kids to be able to get to and from school without getting shot. They want their children to be able to read books when they graduate from high school. And they want their neighborhoods to be safer, and they're demanding more police enforcement, not less.

Chicago needs a law-and-order mayor who will protect the interests of the city's forgotten people: poor people of color who are fed up with failed city policies. Chicagoans deserve a mayor who will fight crime, enable police to do their jobs, and ensure the education of our city's underprivileged residents. Chicago deserves a mayor who puts the interests of Chicagoans and Americans ahead of the interests of those who came here to break the law.

Chicago needs a new mayor. Maybe it's time to elect the first Republican mayor in over 100 years.
