President-elect Donald Trump paid tribute to former President Jimmy Carter, who has died at the age of 100, respectfully remembering him as a man who did his best “to improve the lives of all Americans.”
The president-elect paid tribute to the late former president in a post on his Truth social account on Sunday.
“We just heard the news of President Jimmy Carter's passing. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to have served as president understand that this is a very exclusive club, and the privilege of leading the greatest nation in history. We are the only people who can empathize with this grave responsibility,” Trump wrote.
The president-elect then carefully characterized Carter's tenure, which followed the fall of President Nixon's Watergate and President Gerald Ford's collapse of South Vietnam, as coming “at a pivotal moment for our country.”
“The challenges Jimmy faced as president came at a critical time for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude. We have an obligation,” Trump wrote.
“Melania and I have our hearts out for the Carter family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep this in your thoughts and prayers,” he said. Concluded.
As Breitbart News reported, Jimmy Carter lived longer than any president in U.S. history, serving a single term from 1977 to 1981 before losing to Ronald Reagan in a landslide election. He led a political feat that lasted for a decade.
Carter was the first president to adopt an outlook that focused on America's flaws. He tried to set an example of frugality by installing solar panels on the White House. wearing Wear a sweater instead of turning up the heat.
His approach was symbolized by what was known as “malaise.” speech In 1979 he encouraged the public to reduce consumption. His dour demeanor and sacrificial zeal alienated voters.
Reagan defeated Carter in 1980 by bashing incumbent Democrats on the economic situation, promoting a foreign policy of “peace through strength,” and offering a more optimistic outlook for America.
Mr. Carter's death comes just over a year after his wife, Rosalynn Carter, passed away at the age of 96.
