An Indiana homeowner shot and killed two men who broke into his home in the middle of the night, just hours after Christmas Day.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office announced that at 3:48 a.m. on Dec. 26, they received a 911 call from a residence on North Bulldog Drive in Madison from a man who had allegedly shot and killed two people who had broken into his home. WAVE TV reported. Madison is located on the Indiana-Kentucky border, less than two hours southeast of Indianapolis.
“It's scary. It could have been my house that they broke into.”
The department added that police found two dead men in the home, both identified as Dalton Keith Skirvin, 27, and Caleb Adam Skirvin, 29, both of Madison. WHAS-TV reported that the two men are brothers.
Dalton Keith Skirvin was charged with numerous thefts and burglaries in 2017 and 2018, WAVE reported.
A neighbor named Heather, who lives a few houses away from the shooting scene, told WAVE that the homeowner in question was “a friendly guy, I've never had any problems with him. He's a nice neighbor.”
She told WAVE she has lived on the street for nearly 20 years, adding that the area is “tight-knit” so everyone knows everyone. Heather told WHAS that she went to school with the Skirvin brothers.
WAVE reports that other residents of North Bulldog Drive declined to speak on camera, but that there have been a series of break-ins on the street, including one several days earlier at the home where the shooting occurred. He said that
Charles Pruitt lived across the street. told WLKY-TV The homeowner in question called him a few days before the shooting and “told him someone had broken into his garage.”
“It's scary,” Pruitt added to WLKY. “It could have been my house that they broke into.”
WAVE reported that it is unclear whether the homeowner in question will face charges.
