Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin accused media outlets like her own newspaper of trying to appeal to “MAGA readers” after the election.
The opinion columnist attended the event along with anti-Trump critic George Conway. 92NY Cultural Arts Center He spoke on Dec. 15 to discuss the aftermath of the 2024 election in which President-elect Donald Trump won a second term.
Since then, Rubin singled out her publication in hopes of appealing to those who voted for Trump, after what she claimed were multiple instances of the media caving in to Trump.
“People ask me all the time: Why is the media so talkative? And there are two explanations,” Rubin began. “One is, if they move just a little bit to the right, all the MAGA readers out there — you'll notice the contradiction in terminology now, 'MAGA readers' — will pick up the Washington Post and And they're going to get more readers, what's the logical fallacy here? Yes, readers, there is nothing the Washington Post will do to make them subscribe. But I'm sure they're there. . ”

Mr. Rubin has frequently criticized the Washington Post, particularly its owner Jeff Bezos, for its efforts to become more politically neutral, but he has made no effort to resign in protest and has made no effort to resign from within the paper. He even joked about the rebellion.
“The reason I'm able to be a rebel in my own house is because the mainstream media has kind of capitulated, as I just talked about, and I'm kind of holding my nose,” Rubin said. I joked.

After Bezos announced in November that the Washington Post would not endorse the president, Rubin was one of many columnists to attack Bezos for “bending the knee.”

“First of all, I don't believe the reason. I don't believe they suddenly decided. They should support everyone but the presidential candidate, and this is the first election of all elections. All of a sudden they decided that this new policy is,'' Rubin said on the podcast. “We supported the 2020 presidential candidates, and we had no problem with them. And I recognize this, and even if it was unintentional, it's the worst of what our democracy is at stake.” It's inevitable that it will be perceived as kneeling down to Donald Trump.”
Rubin also criticized MSNBC, where he is a contributor, after it was reported that his “Morning Joe” co-hosts met with President Trump after the election.

“What were they thinking? Who do you think their audience was?” Rubin asked. “Well, maybe this isn't about the audience. Maybe this was them trying to protect themselves or avoid the retaliation they thought was coming to them. But in reality, they were talking about the rich and famous. People.
