Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) is unworthy of a second term in leadership and would cost the Republican House majority if re-elected. Ta.
“Johnson is not the right person for this job,'' Massey said. I wrote it in a post on Tuesday. On social platform
“I challenge them to explain what their end goal is other than noise,” Gingrich wrote.
Mr Massey hit back at the former House of Commons leader, listing ways Mr Johnson had failed to respond.
“[We] Massey wrote as the House Republican Caucus prepares for a speaker vote later this week.
“In a great year for Trump, Johnson almost led us into the minority. He is certain to lose our majority in 2026.”
Massey's comments came just days after President-elect Trump enthusiastically endorsed Johnson's possible bid for a second term as chairman.
The Kentucky Republican has been a harsh critic of Johnson since the summer, and has stepped up his opposition to Johnson as speaker in recent days.
“It's a bit ridiculous to claim that Mike Johnson is the only member to be elected Speaker,” Massey wrote in the X post.
“He was only elected the first time, because he never held any leadership position or fought for anything, so no one could hate him. He won as the least offensive candidate and no longer holds that title.
He went on to add that Johnson owes his rise to the House speakership to Democrats, who helped get him across the finish line in his last campaign to become leader of the House. He claimed that.
Mr Johnson lost the trust of some party members after introducing a failed version of the latest continuing resolution. As Friday's vote for speaker approaches, the politician is under pressure to confirm his competency as speaker, at the risk of being rejected with a single missed vote.
His fate will be determined by the attendance of the members and the status of the roll call.
