A driver plowed his car into a crowd of people celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens, authorities said.
The driver reportedly got out of his car and struck the crowd before firing shots. There was a large police and emergency team presence at the scene.
The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. at the intersection of Bourbon Street and Iberville, a local news station. WGNO reported.
NOLA Ready announced on social media, “A mass casualty incident has occurred at Canal Street and Bourbon Street. Please leave the area.”

“The 8th District is currently investigating a mass casualty incident involving a vehicle that crashed into a large crowd at Canal Street and Bourbon Street,” city officials said.
The city of NOLA's website said 30 injured patients were taken to local hospitals by NOEMS, and at least 10 people died.

Police have not confirmed the number of victims involved in the incident.
“A horrific act of violence occurred on Bourbon Street early this morning,” Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said in a statement.
