A suspect driving a truck plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street on New Year's Day early Wednesday, killing at least 10 people and injuring nearly 30, with authorities investigating the incident as a possible terrorist attack.
The suspect allegedly fired shots at police and died at the scene. On Wednesday, he was identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar.
The mass casualty incident occurred during a busy time in New Orleans, where thousands of people were celebrating the New Year's Day holiday in the French Quarter and others were in town for Wednesday night's Sugar Bowl game.
