Shamsub Din Jabbar identified as suspect in New Orleans New Year attack

The suspect who plowed his car into a jubilant crowd at a New Year's party in New Orleans, Louisiana, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more, has been identified by the FBI as Shamsud Din Jabbar.

Jabbar, who died at the scene of the attack, was a U.S.-born citizen living in Texas, FBI Special Agent in Charge Alecia Duncan said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

The FBI also revealed that Jabbar is a military veteran.

“All I can say is that the person was a veteran,” Duncan said. “We believe he was [an] Honorable discharge. But we're going through this process to figure out all this information. ”

Criminal history:

Jabbar was charged with two misdemeanors in 2002 and 2005, according to documents reviewed by FOX News Digital.

He was charged with misdemeanor theft in Katy, Texas in 2002 and with driving with an invalid license in 2005.

Voting record:

He has a valid voter registration in Texas, according to records reviewed by Fox News Digital. Texas does not have partisan voting registration.

He previously lived in North Carolina and registered as a Democrat in 2012.

The latest terrorist attack in New Orleans comes on the heels of a devastating attack on a German Christmas market in December.

The incident was investigated as an act of terrorism. According to reports, five people were killed and more than 200 injured in the incident.

Magdeburg Police Station said in a translated post that the suspect is a 50-year-old Saudi doctor. They said they believe he was a “lone offender” at this time.
