President-elect Trump has nominated former State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus to be the next administration's deputy presidential special envoy for Middle East peace.
In his announcement, President Trump noted that Ortagus had previously criticized him. As a FOX News contributor in 2016, she slammed trump About the behavior that she thought was “disgusting”. He then worked at the State Department from 2019 to 2021.
“Early on, Morgan fought me for three years and hopefully learned her lesson. These things don't usually work out, but she has strong Republican support and I I’m not doing it for myself, I’m doing it for them,” he said. Told on Truth Social. “Let's see what happens.”
Ortagus will be representing Stephen Witkoff, a real estate executive whom President Trump appointed as special envoy to the Middle East in November.
“She is a great leader and talented Steve and we hope she will be an invaluable asset to us as we aim to bring peace and prosperity to a very troubled region. Great results coming soon.” We look forward to it!'' President Trump said in the announcement.
President Trump supported Ortagus' bid for Congress in 2022, but he was removed from the vote by the Tennessee Republican Party because he moved to the state too recently.
Ortagus is a Navy Reserve officer who worked at the Treasury Department during President Obama's administration.
Trump highlighted her experience in Friday's announcement.
“From 2019 to 2021, Morgan served as Press Secretary at the State Department (Pompeo!) and was a member of my historic Abraham Accords team that brought unprecedented peace to the Middle East. “He worked as an intelligence analyst and served as deputy U.S. Treasury official in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 2010 to 2011,” Trump said.
He also added, “Good luck Morgan!”
