The agreed settlement was submitted on December 13th.thIt will be held in Oakland, California in 2024 and is currently awaiting approval from a U.S. district judge.

The five-year-old lawsuit alleges that Apple has been activating Siri without users' knowledge for “more than a decade.” The lawsuit continued, alleging that Apple continues to record conversations with advertisers and certain keywords without the knowledge of phone owners in order to promote their products and services.

Apple has long touted itself as a “pioneer” in protecting consumer privacy. But when users see a particular ad for a product or service via a social media app after they have loudly discussed a relevant topic or number, they wonder if their device is listening to them. I had my doubts for a long time.

Two plaintiffs in the lawsuit recalled that the mere mention of Air Jordan shoes caused shoe ads to frequently appear on their iPhones. Another noted that after discussing a particular surgical treatment with their doctor, they began receiving medical advertisements related to that treatment.

This claim contradicts Apple CEO Tim Cook's assertion that the right to privacy is a “fundamental human right.”

If a district judge approves the settlement, tens of millions of Apple consumers who have owned devices since September 2017 willthIf you filed in 2014, you could receive up to $20 per device, depending on the amount you claim, according to court documents.

Apple has reiterated that it has not admitted any wrongdoing in the pending settlement, and lawyers plan to review the terms of the lawsuit on February 14th.th Hearing. Additionally, the $95 million settlement is only a fraction of the $705 billion Apple has paid since the September 2014 deadline.

Lawyers representing consumers in the case estimated that Apple would have to pay about $1.5 billion if the case went to trial.

Apple's SIRI acronym stands for “Speech Interpretation and Recognition Interface” (SIRI).
