Aaron Rodgers and the Jets are having a nightmare season, and one NFL expert is wondering why any team would want a veteran quarterback next year.
NFL Network's Brian Baldinger spoke with The Post's Steve Serby and said he doesn't know who would want to “invest” in Aaron Rodgers right now.
“He's not a good player right now,” Baldinger said. “We watched Peyton die. [Manning]Drew's [Brees]of Brett Favre. We are now watching the death of Aaron Rodgers. And just watching him run, he struggles when he runs when he should. His decision-making is questionable. I don't understand why anyone would invest in this player right now. ”
Rodgers is back from last year's season-ending Achilles injury, but he has only had more than 300 passing yards in just one game this season, with the Jets slumping to 4-12 ahead of Sunday's final game against the Dolphins. It's only one game.
He turned 41 in early December and said earlier this week that he wants to take time this offseason to think about what his football future holds.
He admitted his future might not include playing for the Jets, who are looking for a “change.”
“I've become even more resigned to the reality of the situation. Change is going to happen here,” Rodgers told reporters. “If I’m part of the change, I just want everyone to know that I have nothing but gratitude for my time here.
“I’m disappointed in the performance for myself and the team, but I’m really grateful for the opportunity. If I come back feeling good and they want to run with this again, I’m really grateful for the opportunity. That would be great, but I'm not naive about the situation we're in.”
Rodgers has thrown for 3,623 yards and 24 touchdowns this year, but as of Week 18, those are his lowest season totals in a year in which he has played in at least 16 games.
Baldinger believes teams looking for a veteran quarterback to start in 2025 may be better off looking elsewhere.
The analyst added: “He's just not a good player. So far he hasn't promoted anyone around him.” “I think some people would invest in Kirk Cousins as a bridge quarterback before investing in Aaron Rodgers right now.”
