A 12-year-old Massachusetts boy has been remembered as a “magical” middle school student after he died in an accident at a New Hampshire ski resort.
Jack Murray, 12, was skiing at Cranmore Mountain in Conway, New Hampshire, on New Year's Eve when he crashed into a tree while traveling on the intermediate trail. Authorities said in a statement that the boy was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident.
The man was found unconscious and rushed to Maine Health Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Conway Police Department.

“His positivity and laughter are contagious. He is a loving and patient person who always sees the good in people. Jack is caring, empathetic and the best hugger. Jack is the best kid a parent could ask for and makes us all better because people knew him. ”
A GoFundMe has been set up in memory of Jack, who played drums in the school band, and the family is asking people to honor his life by donating to music programs in lieu of flowers.
“Helping aspiring musicians like Jack enrich their lives through the arts is a wonderful way to honor his memory,” his father, Paul Murray, wrote on the GoFundMe page.

In his obituary, the 12-year-old boy was remembered as a “bright light” and his family listed an impressive list of interests the middle school student was passionate about.
“The brightest lights in life never shine for long, and Jack was that bright light for many,” the obituary said. “Despite his short life, he accomplished more in 12 years than most people do in a lifetime.”

Murray was remembered as an up-and-coming entrepreneur, for playing soccer, trombone and drums, and for his artistic talent.
“Jack loved his family, friends and neighbors (and told them so regularly) and knew how much he was loved. Jack will be missed by everyone who knew him and the Weymouth community. It will leave a hole in the hearts of all,” the family said.
“We hope you take inspiration from Jack's short life and apply it to your own. We will always love you Jack!”

In a statement after the accident, a spokesperson for Cranmore Mountain Resort expressed condolences for “this tragic loss.”
“On behalf of Cranmore Mountain Resort, our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” a resort spokesperson said. “The entire Cranmore family is saddened by this tragic loss.”
