A Pennsylvania man is accused of attempting to join the terrorist organization Hezbollah with the explicit purpose of “murdering Jews,” the Justice Department said in a filing.
Jack Danaher Molloy, 24, was charged Thursday in Pittsburgh with attempting to travel to Lebanon and Syria last year to join an Iranian-backed terrorist organization. Fox News reported.
Molloy is a dual citizen of the United States and Ireland, served on active duty in the U.S. Army, and attempted to join Hezbollah multiple times, according to an affidavit filed in federal court.
Court documents filed by federal authorities say he told his family that “the master plan was to join Hezbollah and kill Jews,” Fox News reported.
Molloy converted to Islam in 2024, began operating in the Middle East, and attempted to join a murderous terrorist organization, according to the report.
According to the Justice Department, he traveled to Lebanon in August 2024 and contacted local people about joining the fighting in Lebanon.
He then flew to Syria in October 2024 and attempted to join Hezbollah again.
When he returned home, he was met by an FBI agent who asked him if he had tried to join a terrorist organization.
Molloy has denied trial and is also charged with lying to FBI agents.
He will continue to attempt to join the group while living in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, the Justice Department alleges.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison for the material aid charge and up to eight years in prison for making false statements to the FBI, Fox News reports.
