Enrique Tarrio, the former president of the Proud Boys, is currently serving 22 years in federal prison after being convicted of seditious conspiracy in connection with the January 6 attack.ththe 2021 protests called for a presidential pardon from President-elect Donald Trump.

Naib Hassan, a Florida criminal defense attorney representing Tarrio, said in a January 6 article:th A former Proud Boys national chairman wrote a letter to Trump saying he was targeted by the Biden administration because of his political views.
The request also followed President Trump's announcement that he would pardon a portion of Jan. 6.th Protesters after the presidential inauguration on January 20thth.
The letter described Tarrio as “a young man with a hopeful future,” and said Tarrio “is not just a proud American, but a right-wing extremist who promoted neo-fascist extremist organizations through government lawsuits.” “It's depicted,” he said. It believes in true conservative values,” Hassan argued.
Hassan also noted that he was not at the Capitol that day because Tarrio was ordered to leave the city after he was previously arrested for burning a stolen Black Lives Matter (BLM) banner. and accused the Biden administration of prosecuting Tarrio and four others. Boys take pride in “expressing freedom of expression.''
Hassan said Tarrio will honor the pardon with “the respect, gratitude and sincerity it deserves.” The lawyer said the letter had already been sent to people on Trump's team.
This comes after prosecutors argued at trial that Tarrio led an effort to group Proud Boys and others to “violently” descend on the Capitol. Mr. Tarrio was not at the Capitol that day, but several of his “cadres” were present in the crowd of protesters.
Additionally, Proud Boys members Joe Biggs, Ethan Nordean, and Zachary Lehr were found guilty of seditious conspiracy along with Tarrio in a 2023 trial.
More than 1,580 defendants were indicted and 1,270 were convicted.th Demonstration at the US Capitol.
The Trump transition team has not responded to Tarrio's request for pardon.
