President-elect Trump announced Monday that he will replace the director of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
“we will [have a] A new archivist,” Trump said on conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt's show.
According to federal law NARA's website states that President Trump has the authority to fire archivists, but must “communicate to each Congress the reasons for such termination.”

Special Counsel Jack Smith formally withdrew from the documents case last week and referred continued prosecution of the president-elect's two co-defendants to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. Smith also formally dropped charges in both federal cases brought against Trump two months ago and dismissed them without prejudice, citing Justice Department policy barring prosecution of sitting presidents.
“There were some very good and fair judges in this case,” Trump told Hewitt on Monday, referring to U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon, who ruled in July to dismiss the documents lawsuit.
