Titans fire Ran Carthon after securing No. 1 pick in 2025 NFL Draft

The Titans didn't believe the current administration could handle the No. 1 pick.

After Tennessee acquired the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, team owner Amy Adams Slank announced Tuesday that she has fired general manager Ran Carson after just two seasons.

“We can't ignore the lack of growth in our football team over the past two years.” Mr. Strunk said in a statement:. “While I am of course extremely disappointed in our poor win-loss record during this period, my decision also speaks to my concerns about our long-term future if we continue in this direction. Masu.”

This is shaping up to be an important offseason for the Titans, who finished the season with a 3-14 record and currently hold the coveted top spot in the draft.

A poor roster played a large part in why the Titans took the top pick, and Carson paid the price after the Titans went 9-25 over the past two seasons.

Tennessee dropped three wins after Carson's first season as head coach, replacing former coach Mike Vrabel with former Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan.

Carson also appeared to have made a mistake in selecting Will Revis to take over at quarterback, with the 2023 second-round pick struggling with a turnover-filled season this year.

It certainly didn't help his cause that 2022 third-round quarterback Malik Willis played very well after being traded to the Packers for just a seventh-round pick.

Carson made big acquisitions in the offseason, including receiver Calvin Ridley and cornerback L'Arzius Snead, but they didn't translate into more wins.

His short tenure came after former general manager Jon Robinson lost his job after a 7-10 season, along with the ill-fated trade of AJ Brown to the Eagles.

“I love this team more than you can imagine. To our fans: We know this level of performance is unacceptable,” Adams Strunk said in a statement. . “We are humbled by your support as we continue to build the team you expect and deserve.”

Acquiring the No. 1 pick could give the Titans a quality general manager. That person could draft a franchise quarterback, so Shedule Sanders and Cam Ward are considered the top options in this class.

But Callahan's presence could be a negative if candidates don't believe he's the right head coach to lead the franchise.

The Titans are now competing with the Jets in the general manager market, with Gang Green making six requests on Monday.

“We are looking for someone who fits our philosophy and how we build this program going forward,” Brinker said in a team statement. “I see this partnership as one heartbeat. We're going to work together on everything. At the end of the day, we all work together to figure out what's the best decision for the Tennessee Titans. So we want to have a healthy discussion so that we can make the best decision when the situation arises, all egos aside. What is important is what it is.

“I'm going to let the (new) general manager do his job and set the free agent strategy and draft strategy and build the roster. And I'll be there with him.”
