The Senate on Tuesday approved the 119th Congress' organizational resolution, formally setting committee composition and greenlighting nomination hearings to be held in the coming weeks.
The Senate unanimously adopted the majority resolution and the minority resolution. The move lays the foundation for the next two years and sets the number of committee seats for each party during that time.
More immediately, committee hearings for President-elect Trump's nominees will be allowed to begin next week.
Most committees require a week's notice for business hearings, so the hearing could start as early as next Tuesday.
Many of President Trump's top nominees will be in various positions starting next week, including Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Pete Hegseth, Brooke Rollins, and former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.). He is expected to appear before the committee.
Other bills, including Pam Bondi's nomination for attorney general, have stalled due to committee procedural issues, one Senate Republican official said.
Republicans initially expected the organizing resolution to pass on Friday or Monday, but ultimately needed more time to complete.
