As firefighters battled a fast-moving forest fire in the Pacific Palisades, a second inferno broke out in nearby Pasadena.
Two fires have forced more than 30,000 people from their homes. Fighters are battling the Eaton Fire, which is currently burning an estimated 200 acres in the Pasadena area. Eaton firefighters are evacuating as the fire continues to advance.
Santa Ana's strong winds have grounded firefighting planes and prevented them from flying, hampering efforts to drop hydrogen bombs from the air.
