Two lynx are on the loose in the Scottish Highlands after being suspected of illegally releasing birds.
On Wednesday evening, the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) announced that the animals were roaming around the property.
The CNPA said it was working with Police Scotland to determine what happened and assured the public that big cats pose a “low risk” to the public due to their shy nature.
“Park authorities have been alerted to the suspected illegal release of two lynx in Cairngorms National Park,” a spokesperson said.
“Police Scotland has been informed of the report and is working closely with our partners, including the Park Authority, to establish the full story and take appropriate action.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the illegal release of wild animals and are also concerned for the welfare of the released lynx.
“Lynx are shy animals and pose a low risk to humans, but if you spot a lynx, please avoid approaching the area.”
CNPA said it would be inappropriate to comment further as the police investigation is ongoing.
Highland Wildlife Park echoes the CNPA's call to avoid the animals if spotted and is assisting park officials in tracking the animals.
“While these are not our lynx, we are working closely with Police Scotland and our partners to safely recover the animals,” the spokesperson said.
Police Scotland confirmed they were investigating the incident and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
