Man Arrested for Attempting to Bring Machete into Capitol Visitor Center

U.S. Capitol Police have reportedly arrested a man who tried to bring a machete and several knives into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC).

U.S. Capitol Police in a post about revealed A man was “stopped and arrested” after a machete was “discovered” in his bag during a screening on the north side of the CVC on Wednesday afternoon. Capitol Police also reportedly found three knives in the man's bag.

In a separate post, Capitol Police said, “During security screening at the CVC North Exit, officers discovered a machete in the man's bag, deactivated the X-ray machine, arrested the man, and secured the machete.” he added.

That man is identified as Mel J. Horn, 44, according to a Capitol Police press release.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Munger said the Capitol Police “know we cannot let our guard down.”

“We know that our police officers cannot let their guard down for even a second,” Munger said in a statement. “This constant focus and attention to detail helps keep this campus safe.”

capitol police added The man was arrested on “multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon,” police said.
