If you thought there wouldn't be any wholesome, heartwarming moments in the late-season battle between the AFC North rivals, you were mostly right, but not quite.
NFL Films captured emotional moments during a hard-fought game in Week 18. Ravens rookie Roger Rosengarten asked Browns star Myles Garrett for his jersey after the game. Jersey exchanges have become a staple of NFL postgame rituals, with opposing players exchanging jerseys as a sign of respect after a tough game.
But Rosengarten described himself as a “nobody” as a prelude to his request for Garrett's jersey.
Garrett's reaction to this young player was encouraging and heartwarming.
“I know I'm a nobody, but what if I could get that jersey after that?” Rosengarten asked Garrett.
Garrett replied: “Hey, you're in the league, you're winning games, you look great, and you're never anything. I found you.”
Rosengarten explained how that moment happened Wednesday.
“After Derrick ran big for the touchdown, it was just me and him walking. I was like, 'He's right next to me.' Why not? There's no one else. ”In fact, the whole world witnessed it. ” Rosengarten said the only thing he would have changed is to have called himself a rookie instead of a “nobody.”
Despite the Browns' 3-14 loss, Garrett has 14 sacks for the second year in a row and is on his way to winning Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Despite the team's dismal record, Garrett remained loyal to Cleveland. However, he entered free agency and said he had no interest in being part of another “rebuild.”
As for the Ravens, they will host the Steelers on Saturday night against another division rival in the first round of the playoffs.
