California Governor Gavin Newsom has invited President-elect Donald Trump to California to “see first-hand the devastation” of wildfires still raging in the Golden State.

In an open letter Friday, Rep. Newsom (D-Calif.) called on the president-elect to visit Los Angeles County to assess the devastating damage caused by Southern California's wildfires.
“In the spirit of this great nation, we must not politicize a human tragedy or spread disinformation from the sidelines,” Newsom said in a letter to Trump. “Hundreds of thousands of Americans who have been forced to flee their homes and feel uncertain about their futures deserve to see us all work to put their interests first and ensure rapid recovery and rebuilding. .”
“As I prepare to assume the Presidency again, I invite you to come to California once again to meet Americans affected by the fires, see firsthand the devastation, and join me and others in honor of our brave firefighters. We would like to express our gratitude to the officers and first responders who are putting their lives at risk,” he continued.
Newsom's invitation came after Trump slammed Democrats, saying he should resign as governor.
“One of the greatest and most beautiful parts of America is being burned down,” President Trump said on Truth Social. “It's gone to ashes, Gavin Newscome should resign. This is all his fault!!!”
Mr. Trump and Mr. Newsom have clashed many times in the past. In 2019, President Trump pressured Newsom to do more to preserve California's forests.
“Every year, every time the fires rage and California burns, the same thing happens. And he comes to the federal government asking for $$$ aid. No more. Governor, take action.” President Trump tweeted.
