In a letter to incoming leaders Friday, the chairman of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors urged President-elect Trump to visit the fire areas.
“I sent a letter to the president-elect @realDonaldTrump We invited him to visit our county to participate in wildfire recovery efforts and see the effects firsthand,” Kathryn Berger wrote in the post. × Includes a screenshot of the letter.
“The White House’s involvement will allow for the rapid deployment of federal resources, including emergency personnel and financial assistance.”
Mr Berger said Mr Trump's visit would cheer up local communities suffering from the effects of wildfires.
“By accepting this invitation, Mr. President-elect, please join us in supporting our people and thanking the heroic first responders who risked their lives to save others.” explained Berger.
“We also ask you, as President, to work with the people of Los Angeles County to set the course for recovery. Your presence will be deeply felt and appreciated.”
In her letter, she recalled the former president's visit after the Woolsey fire in Malibu. Berger said it was time to move back beyond the disaster and devastation.
“If you come to Los Angeles to support us as president so far, we will be greatly encouraged and our success will be even greater,” the chairman stressed.
The state's Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom made a similar request after facing criticism from President Trump over his wildfire preparedness and response.
President Trump has been vocal in criticizing the state's Democratic leadership in the wake of the fires and has taken aim at Newsom, calling for his resignation.
