In 2020, Trump's final year in office, 18% of adults in NATO countries approved of US leadership, while 72% disapproved. By comparison, Trump took office in 2017 with a median approval rating of 25% for U.S. leadership and a median disapproval rating of 59%.
The study includes 1,000 interviews with adults from 30 NATO countries in 2024. The margin of error is 3.4 to 4.9 percentage points.

Monday afternoon's speech will focus on the administration's efforts to strengthen America's standing in the world and will be delivered at the State Department in Washington, D.C., a senior administration official said.
The president is expected to talk about America's place on the world stage when he takes office for the first time in 2021, and argue that the United States will be in a stronger position over the next four years. He will also claim that international alliances and partnerships are stronger than they have been under any previous administration.
