Trump Reiterates Stance on Iran
President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his belief that the economic hardships faced by Americans were not a consideration in his stance on Iran’s nuclear capabilities, referring to his earlier remarks as “a perfect statement.”
Initially, Trump told Daily Caller reporter Regan Reese that the financial situation of Americans was “not a factor in the slightest” when he was urging for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict with Iran. His comments come at a time when many are grappling with significant economic impacts, including rising prices for gas and food. He further defended his position in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier.
During his conversation with Baier, Trump expressed his intention to repeat his previous statement, emphasizing that halting Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons outweighs the short-term economic struggles people are facing.
“It’s very simple. If you listen to me, everyone will agree,” Trump asserted. “It’s going to be a short-term pain. That’s all.”
Gas prices have seen a dramatic increase, reportedly rising around 50% since the onset of the conflict with Iran, with the national average currently at approximately $4.52 per gallon.
These economic pressures are linked to concerns over freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a significant transit point for global oil shipments. According to the International Energy Agency, this route is responsible for about 34% of the world’s crude oil transit.
The White House directed inquiries to an earlier statement by communications director Stephen Chan, who backed Trump’s remarks. Chan emphasized, “The president’s ultimate responsibility is the safety and security of the American people. Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. If action is not taken, Iran will have nuclear weapons, which threatens all Americans.”
