McDonald's announced that it plans to close half of its CosMc's beverage stores in Texas just one year after opening.
The world's largest fast food chain is testing large and small cafes at six stores in Texas and a flagship store in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
The company announced that it will open two smaller CosMc stores in Texas.
“Sometimes the smallest star shines the brightest.” McDonald's said in a statement:. “Since opening CosMc's, we've been able to test different store sizes and setups, from renovating larger restaurant spaces to building smaller prototype stores with a focus on drive-thru and digital experiences. This beverage shop is reminiscent of the nostalgic McDonald's character, CosMc. CosMc is a six-handed alien trying to bring hamburgers home. Now, the spinoff chain is hoping to capture a share of the growing demand for non-alcoholic beverages, energy drinks and specialty lattes.
Its menu is reminiscent of Swig, the Utah drive-thru soda chain that took over TikTok, with plenty of drink options and snacks.
CosMc's best sellers include the Churro Cold Brew Frappe, Sour Energy Burst, and Island Pick Me Up Punch.
Some of the chain's most popular snacks include savory hashbrown bites and MacPops (bite-sized beignets in a variety of flavors).
McDonald's said its flagship store, CosMc's, opened in Illinois in December 2023. McDonald's said customers lined up for hours to try the new menu items and even flew in from as far as England and France.
