A Los Angeles family living in Palisades Highlands told this week how they used a pool, generator, sprinklers, pumps and fire hoses to protect their home from the wildfires that have destroyed thousands of homes.
The system is “very budget-friendly and easy to operate,” Instagram user Cali_._love said in a video showing the system pumping water from a pool and spraying it on the vegetation surrounding her hillside home. I wrote it with
“There is no doubt that these generators, pumps, pools, sprinklers, and fire hoses helped save our family's home,” Cali_._love wrote. “My dad was very adamant that everyone in the neighborhood had it, and he was right because he's done it many times in his career.”
They said they drained two pools, theirs and a neighbor's pool, and ran their equipment for 10 hours over two days, flooding their plants and roof. “When I came back the next day, the bottom half of the palm tree was burned down, the whole hillside.

“Without this, we wouldn't have a house anymore and probably no neighbors. Were we lucky? Very lucky. Were we ready? Yes. What we would do differently Was there? Definitely,” they wrote.
Seeing that his home did not burn down, he said he was “absolutely” that anyone with a pool should use the system.
They said that even without a pool, there are other water storage solutions.

“As we were in the area, we patrolled neighboring homes and close family friends,” they added. “We encountered a lot of threatening embers and live ammunition. It was difficult to put them all out, but we did our best with buckets and their pools. With this, we It would have been 100 times more efficient.”
