Tennis legend Martina Navratilova tells Democrats to ‘grow a spine’ after they voted against trans ban bill

Former women's tennis star Martina Navratilova took part in Tuesday's vote in the House of Commons on the protection of women and girls in sports legislation. The Republican majority voted unanimously to pass the bill, but only two Democratic House members voted in favor, and the rest did not vote in favor.

Navratilova has also taken a firm stance against transgender participation in women's and girls' sports, and has previously criticized Democratic lawmakers who support transgender people. The criticism continued Tuesday with a series of posts about X.

“Shame on the Democratic Party for their complete lack of concern for women, girls, their safety and equity,” he wrote after news that only two Democratic House members voted in favor of the bill. .

In another post, Navratilova argued that there needs to be at least two Democratic House members who oppose transgender inclusion and that those members should “stand tall.”

“We need more Democrats to stand up here. I agree, but I know a lot of people who are afraid to speak out because of re-election. I'm telling them to do the right thing. Stand tall,” she wrote.

This is not the first time Navratilova has criticized the left for differing views on the issue.

In a December post about X, tennis legend She said she was “angry” that Republicans, rather than Democrats, with whom she has worked, are taking on the national controversy.

“Now, it's like, 'Oh, you're a homophobe.' You know, I've been out since '81, so yeah, I'm a homophobe,” she said. “'You're a bigot, you're a transphobe, you're a Nazi, you're a fascist, you're a communist,' and everything in between.
