Biden’s Farewell Speech ‘Optimistic,’ One of His Best Speeches

CNN senior political commentator and former Obama adviser David Axelrod said Wednesday on “Anderson Cooper 360” that President Joe Biden's farewell address was “optimistic.”

Host Jake Tapper asked, “What do you think about tonight's speech?”

Axelrod said, “Listen, that was probably one of the best speeches I've ever heard Joe Biden give, and the reason is he gave a speech about the country.'' Yes, he claimed credit for progress, but his speech reflected on the country he believes in and the challenges and threats he sees. And it was a very optimistic speech that ultimately, if we take them seriously, we can overcome them. As he said, America, the America of our dreams, is always within our reach. I think he believes that.”

Furthermore, he added: “You know, I remember him as a young man when he came to Washington. He was a genius from the age of 30. He was going to be president of the United States one day. He had energy and vitality. It's moving to see him give a speech in this final section that I think is very inclusive of his fundamental beliefs about this country.”
