UFC star Conor McGregor faces lawsuit over alleged sex assault during 2023 NBA Finals game

UFC star Conor McGregor was charged Tuesday with sexual assault charges stemming from a bathroom incident at Caseya Center during a 2023 Miami Heat NBA Finals game.

The woman, described as a 49-year-old senior vice president at a Wall Street financial firm, claimed McGregor assaulted her in a bathroom in Miami during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 9, 2023.

Her attorney, James Dunn, filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

“My client has thought long and hard about the decision to proceed with this civil case and fears it may affect his job on Wall Street,” Dunn said. “Nonetheless, her primary purpose in filing this lawsuit is to raise awareness about sexual assault and encourage others to report sexual assault.”

Prosecutors announced in October 2023 that McGregor would not face criminal charges in connection with the incident.

“After a thorough investigation at the time, the state attorney concluded there was no case to pursue,” she said. “After almost two years and at least three attorneys, the plaintiffs have told a new false story. We are confident that this case will also be dismissed.”

The lawsuit alleges that arena staff and security had “actual knowledge of the wrongfulness of the conduct” and failed to adequately and adequately protect her. The lawsuit also accuses staff of providing excessive service to McGregor despite having “culpable knowledge of an increased risk of low battery life.”

McGregor was competing in the fight to promote painkillers. He punched Bernie, the Heat mascot, and tried to “spray” Bernie as he was removed from the court.

The woman claims that someone from Mr McGregor's entourage led her to a men's room and the assault occurred.

A Heat spokesperson told The Associated Press that the team does not comment on litigation.
