President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Earlier, Chinese state media reported on the phone call, but did not provide details about what was discussed.

The meeting also came after China's Foreign Ministry announced that Xi would not attend President Trump's inauguration ceremony on Monday. Instead, Vice President Han Zheng will attend the ceremony in Washington DC as Mr Xi's special representative.

After President Xi was re-elected in November, he sent a message of congratulations to President Trump, stating that the United States and China “stand to gain from cooperation and lose from conflict,” and suggested ways for the two countries to “get along together.” He said he hopes he can find it. ”

Donald Trump confirmed the call, calling it “a very good one.”

Trump said the meeting discussed “trade, fentanyl, TikTok and many other topics.”
