A once prominent Massachusetts doctor accused of sexually assaulting hundreds of patients has been indicted on rape charges.
Derrick Todd is a Harvard-trained rheumatologist who practiced at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
“This is a crime. He's a predator.”
A Middlesex County grand jury indicted Todd on Thursday on two counts of rape.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said: statement“The indictment is two counts of rape alleging sexual assault of two women who were his patients at the time of the assaults.”
The alleged sexual assaults allegedly occurred during medical examinations in December 2022 and June 2023.
Todd appeared in court Friday morning. pleaded not guilty for rape.
The judge in the case ordered Todd to surrender all of his medical licenses and prohibit him from practicing medicine or having any contact with the alleged victims. Bail was set at $10,000 cash.
Todd's attorney, Anthony Abern, previously said his client “does not intend to litigate this matter in the media, but intends to protect his care as the case progresses in the Massachusetts Superior Court.”
As Blaze News reported in October 2023, a class action lawsuit was filed against Todd for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting her during medical exams.
The patients accused Todd of performing unnecessary tests “performed for their own sexual gratification,” according to a class action lawsuit filed in Suffolk County Superior Court.
“These horrific, traumatic, and deplorable acts” date back “at least to 2011 and continued through July 2023,” the complaint states.
Although the sexual assault allegations had been going on for more than 10 years, patients only started coming forward in the summer of 2023.

The lawsuit alleges that the hospital system failed to “hire, supervise, manage, supervise, and retain competent health care providers who refrained from assaulting patients or performing inappropriate tests” while allowing Todd's alleged sexual abuse to occur. They are accusing him of allowing it.
Todd resigned from Brigham and Women's Hospital in July 2023 after the hospital conducted an internal investigation into dozens of complaints.

In September, Mr. Todd entered into a voluntary agreement with the Medical Registration Board to cease practicing medicine anywhere in the country. The investigation into Todd's sexual assault allegations is ongoing.
