KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Saturday with a barrage of drones and missiles, killing at least four people, while Russian industrial facilities were set on fire by the Ukrainian attack.
Russia launched 39 Shahed drones, other simulator drones and four ballistic missiles early Saturday, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Ukraine's air defense forces shot down two missiles and 24 drones. A further 14 drone simulators were unaccounted for, the statement said.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev City Military Administration, said four people were killed when a missile fell over the Shevchenkivsky district. Debris was also reported to have fallen in the Desnyansky district.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said windows were broken and smoke rose at the entrances to houses in Shevchenkivsky district, adding that water pipelines were also damaged.
Associated Press reporters at the scene saw a dead man lying in a pool of blood in the rubble. Roads were flooded with water while firefighters extinguished the fire caused by the attack.
Klitschko also said Lukyanivska metro station was closed after the glass entrance was damaged in the attack.
