On Friday's broadcast of “CNN This Morning,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) discussed reports of Senate Democrats calling on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race. “The day I am unable to do these things is open to everyone,” he said. If you're at a town hall meeting and you're standing there and being asked unscripted questions for an hour and a half, you have to do something else. And obviously that was part of this. I don't think Joe Biden would ever have a session like that in the White House. And we saw the results. ”
Mr. Wyden said: [relevant remarks begin around 27:05] “I'm holding a town hall meeting at my house this weekend. I had 1,100. And I told my staff to go to all the meetings in town hall open to the public and stand there and take unscripted questions for an hour. On days when I can't half-answer, I said I have to do something else. And obviously, that was part of this. Joe Biden would never have a session like that in the White House. And we've seen the results.”
Moderator Casey Hunt then asked, “Before that debate performance, when Biden was still running for president, did you feel he was up to the task?” Did you have any concerns beforehand? ”
“In the first few days of the semester, we worked very closely together and he was part of the program, and I wrote The Largest Investment in American History to Fight Climate Change,” Wyden said. …President Biden has been with us every step of the way. We're going to reward people who reduce carbon. We're going to work together to lower energy prices. He was giving it his all. But obviously, after that big package in the first few years, I didn't see him on the trail as much and one of those spontaneous discussions. I don’t think I even participated in the club, and it showed.”
