Homan says Trump admin 'reconsidering' details of Chicago immigration raids after leak

President-elect Trump's incoming border czar, Tom Homan, said Sunday that enforcement officials are “reconsidering” some of the details of the Chicago immigration operation after they were leaked to the media.

In an interview on Fox News' “America's Newsroom,” Homan said the operation would not be canceled completely, but that some details would be reconsidered to ensure the safety of personnel.

“We're not going to reconsider any operations. There was a breach in Chicago. So we're investigating that breach and how it impacts officer safety concerns.” Homan said this when asked about reports that authorities were “reconsidering” whether to proceed with the operation this week.

Homan continued, “Chicago is not exempt, but due to the information leak, we are reconsidering when and how to do so.''

Homan, a former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said he is happy to talk publicly about the overall goal of securing borders and strengthening immigration enforcement, but that he has “no concrete plans.” ” could raise concerns, he said. For the safety of police officers.

“The leak in Chicago is more specific, what was going on, and that raises concerns for officer safety,” Homan said.

“They already have a dangerous job. Like I said, they're going to be arresting threats to public safety and national security, and it's dangerous. “If someone threatens to attack you, there are concerns about the safety of the police officer and the specific plan of action.”

“So we're looking at what was leaked, what's actually in there, and how that affects us going forward,” he added.

wall street journal reported on Friday night The incoming Trump administration was planning an immigration raid in Chicago, according to four sources familiar with the plan. The newspaper said between 100 and 200 police officers will be involved in the operation, which began on Tuesday morning and is expected to last for a week.

In response to the report, Mr. Homan said, told the Washington Post On Saturday, the new government said it had “not yet made a decision” on the raid.

“We are investigating this breach and will make decisions based on this breach,” Homan told the Post. “This is unfortunate because anyone who leaks law enforcement operations puts our officers at greater risk.”

He also said he doesn't understand why Chicago has become “the center of attention” and enforcement efforts are spreading across the country. “We're going to arrest people all over the country without being bound by previous administrative guidelines. Why is that?'' he told the Post. You mentioned Chicago specifically, but I don't know. ”

“This is a national thing,” Homan said. “We're not cleaning up neighborhoods. We have a targeted enforcement plan.”
