After getting the Straight win Sunday vs. Jiří Rehecca In the fourth round of the Australian Open, superstar Novak Djokovic booked his ticket to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
But that moment has now been sidelined because of what happened as he exited the court. Australia's Channel 9, the exclusive broadcaster of the Pacific Open, tried to speak to Djokovic after the match, but he was unavailable. His refusal to speak to them was due to comments made by journalist Tony Jones about the tennis legend.
But these weren't just ordinary comments, with Jones accusing Djokovic of past overestimation and even disrespecting the Serbian people. (Related: Faith leads Notre Dame, Ohio, with impressive lead over both schools in national championship game)
In response, Djokovic, like Jones, demanded an apology from Channel 9 without using his name.
“A well-known sports journalist working for state broadcaster Channel 9… made fun of Serbian fans and also made insulting and offensive comments towards me,” Djokovic said.
Djokovic went on to say that his boycott of the network will continue.
